At Dorset Training we have taken every possible step to ensure the safety of our instructors and candidates to allow for social distancing and government guidelines going forward including;

  • Providing a large open plan, well ventilated training space with two metres between each desk.
  • Outdoor learning in all possible circumstances
  • Anti-bacterial wipes for each transition between machinery
  • Hand sanitiser and handwashing facilities
  • Provision of gloves to be worn during practical work
  • Separate parking area from other users of the site

We focus on delivering appropriate and cost effective training in response to the needs of both members and non members.

Forestry Skills

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requires all those operating chainsaws, both frequently and infrequently, to be trained to a minimum standard before operating chainsaws. It is also essential to maintain training with frequent refresher courses to ensure an up to date understanding of the safety issues.


Crop based courses covering a variety of in depth or broad areas of commercial crop growing, nutrient management and specialised agronomy qualifications such as FACTS and BASIS.

Sprayer & Chemical Training

In order to purchase, safely use and apply pesticides it is necessary to hold the required Pesticide Application (PA) certificates. Those born prior to 31st December 1964 have previously used and purchased pesticides under ‘grandfather rights’ – these will expire in Autumn 2015 after which all sprayer operators will require PA use and application certificates.

Plant & Machinery

The majority of accidents at work are caused through the operation of machinery. It is essential to be trained and to train all employees to a high standard on all machines at work. Such training will help to avoid accidents and near misses. A full range of refresher courses is also available to maintain the skills and understanding required to operate machinery safely.
