Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm in Diameter Course

Who would benefit from this course?

  • Those with NPTC City & Guilds or Lantra Awards Licence to Practice in maintenance, cross cutting and felling trees up to 380mm
  • Those required to operate chainsaws for felling trees larger than the guide bar length
  • Those working in roles within the forestry, agriculture, horticulture, woodland, local authorities and conservation sectors
  • The course is designed to prepare candidates for independent assessment for NPTC Licence to Practice (Unit 31) or Lantra Awards Licence to practice

What are the course objectives?

  • State the regulations and safety requirements relating to chainsaw use
  • Assess trees to be felled for hazards and risks
  • Use appropriate techniques and aids to take down trees
  • De-limb trees using appropriate and safe techniques
  • Cross-cut safely to correct lengths
  • Handle and stack timber
  • Fell large trees between one and two times the guide bar length using correct cuts, stance and felling aids
  • Take down trees using winches

How long is the course?

Three days practical training plus a one day assessment

What qualification does it give?

Candidates can chose from either:

  • City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over to 380mm – independent assessment
    or
  • Lantra Awards Certificate

£345 plus VAT plus £100 NPTC City and Guilds Registration and Assessment fee plus VAT
